Wikistock:About

Jump to: navigation, search

The goal of WikiStock is to bring together a community of traders and investors who are interested in a repository of all knowledge related to investing. The driving focus of the content on this site should be of immediate relevancy to a stock trader, and less focused on historical information. Historical accounts are generally only one ideal among many others, and so they serves no purpose in this site's pursuit of a concise and accurate representation of all knowledge related to investing.

Wikistock strives to get investing knowledge in shape and shed the excess, freeing it to be quickly accessible to a seeker of a particular topic.

Contents

Wikistock vs. Wikipedia

Wikistock articles should strive to contain information that maintains a constant and/or is immediately relevant. They should avoid historical documentation, as Wikipedia already has this very well covered. Also, Wikipedia articles are intertangled with many interlinks completely unrelated to investing; Wikistock strives to refocus this. For example, the Stock page will not contain links that direct you to a page on the Middle Ages, as the Wikipedia article does.

How you can help

Original Content

Whenever possible, content added to WikiStock should be original content you're adding personally and not a copy of content from another site (unless you contributed that content yourself). While the licenses of sites such as Wikipedia do permit conditional copying of content (even verbatim), we should strive to create our own content whenever possible. There's no point in just cloning other sites, we could just as easily have linked to them instead. When content is copied from another site, please try to remember to cite the source when you add it and please respect the copyright terms of the original.

Trimming

You will find there is already a great deal of information available on Wikistock.

  • Whenever possible, if you feel an article can get to the core of the topic in a more effecient manner, please make those changes.
  • If there are unnecessary sentences, please remove them.
  • If there is historical information, please remove it.

Be nice :)

There's no need to be rude when editing articles or if you have to revert someone's changes. We're all here to help the community and to create the best investors wiki possible. Try to consider other people's feelings and views and everyone will be a lot happier.

Tense

In order to maintain consistency all articles should be written in the present tense. For more information on article conventions, please see the Style Guide
